Nowadays everything that you hear, see, read, and touch is about social media. What is social media you asked? Well, social media is using the media such as facebook, forum, blogs, or any web-based technologies for social interaction. I keep in touch with my friends on facebook and I network on linkedin. Social media can benefit you in many ways such as finding a job, networking with people, and if you own a company you are able to interact with your customer so you can actually understand them. If you understand how to use it well you will success in the business. I was able to understand the meaning of social media and use it to my advantage with the help of a class that I am taking at Michigan State University called “New Media Drivers License“. It teaches me how to use social media to communicate, use SEO (Seach Engine Optimization) to help getting my web site, blog, or anything I put on the internet noticed faster by the people. By taking that class it led me to discover an author named David Meerman Scott who wrote this amazing book called The New Rules of Marketing and PR. The book has became my guide to to understand how social media work and to use it the right way. The book taught me to optimize websites for search engines. To use keywords or tags so that the consumer will search using those key words so it will link back to me. As a blogger, the book encourage me to participate in online discussion so I can soon become an online leader and have a strong presence in the online community.
