Pioneer Acres

How long would it take to clear a virgin acre of land only using equiptment from the 1840′s era?
It’s for a socials project. I’m a ‘pioneer’, and so I get 40 acres of my own entering Canada. How long would it take to clear one of those acres on average. With two people working.
Is this land loaded with brush/shrubs , mature trees , or grassy field that is overgrown with thick, high grass, vines, poison ivy, and burdock’s (sticker bushes)… A small herd of goats (4 to 6)can help with all the above except the mature trees,(those are your problem) and have an acre cleared out in a months time from all vegetation except the big trees, but they will eat lower branches. you can chop and burn any trees and stumps, then you’ll need large draft horses for tilling the land…. all in all I’d say with a lot of diligent, hard work started early in the spring , and going till September, when winter hits in Canada, you’ll be starting next spring off with about 4 to 5 ready and plant-able acres. plant your first crops as soon as the first 1/4 acre is ready this year, so you don’t starve this winter.
