Pioneer AVHP4100 DVD Review
The Pioneer AVHP4100 DVD is a dashboard mounted Audio/Video player with full support for DVDs, DIVx, MP3, WMA amongst other formats. These players improve on conventional CD and MP3 players by adding a touch screen for easy slide controls. This player also includes support for the Apple iPod, so taking your iPod contents, including your favorite music and movies with you in the car is made even easier. Plug in your iPod and everything is controlled from the player. No iPod? The AVH-P4100DVD includes a built-in AUX input for playback from other media devices.
You can select from amongst five different display colors on the 112 key panel to match either your car decor or just your mood. You could even have your own favorite JPG file set as the background wallpaper.
The technical specifications of the amplifier are impressive, the MOSFET 50 W x 4 amplifier giving excellent sound quality for minimal distortion and super efficient power handling.
How well does it live up to its claims?
Installation was easy with the Pioneer instructions and the supplied car installation kit. The sound? Well, how can I describe the sound? It is truly fantastic. Clarity is unsurpassed. Far superior to the previously installed unit which will remain nameless.
A couple of minor niggles. One is that the clock seems to be stuck on a 24-hour format and I couldn’t find anyway of changing this to the more traditional 12-hour format. This may be covered in the owner’s manual but I couldn’t find it. The on-screen graphics are a little amateurish but since you don’t spend much time looking at these, it’s no big deal. The impressive sound quality more than makes up for these minor problems for me.
