Pioneer Cd Changers Car Audio
97 Honda Civic Audio Question?
Hello, I have a 1997 Honda Civic EX. It’s my first car that’s worth anything, so I really want to spend some money to make it “mine.” That said, I am looking to get a nice stereo outfit for it. So far, all I know is the previous owner installed a Pioneer Headunit (unknown model, but it has a 6-CD changer in the trunk) and new speakers.
What I’d like to do is replace the headunit, and possibly add an amp and perhaps a small sub (I think people driving down the road with their rearview mirrors about to fall off from the bass is tacky, but some bass really makes music sound better). I need (absolutely) iPod compatibility (preferably with headunit controls), would like to keep the CD changer (although not necessary, I can live without it), and I would like to have XM built into the headunit, I don’t want a separate box to worry about to work with XM.
I have looked on several manufacturer’s websites and have gotten thorougly confused. Can anyone help? Thanks!
sounds like your more about quality, than quantity when it comes to music, yet i sense you have a budget (most do), so i will give insight and my recomendations based on that.
For a deck, pioneer does make some good stuff, but there are others doing a great job as well, like alpine and kenwood. For Ipod controls Alpine is on the top in my opinion, and that is shown in many reviews i have seen, people find it simple and easy to navigate, at least comparatively speaking. multi line displayes do really make the navigation of the ipod alot easier, but they do cost more. I dont think any manufacturer of after market radios has sat radio built in not even factory radios, they require a small box to be attached that fits behind the dash out of the way, when installed to the user it apears built in. you just have to buy the box for xm or siruis.
also if you are going to get a sub later make sure it has 3 outputs. its not nessary but for the cost i find it very usfull. and most that have 3 also include a on the deck sub volume control and i at least know alpine includes a crossover to seperate frequesciessending only bass to the sub and highes to the mains., very handy features. i listed some good choices below. Note the S/N ratio on these decks very high numbers, the higher the better. anything over 100 is very good and will sound superb.
for a sub, there is a great sale that is going on now on mb quart, excellent sound quality and the price well, unbelievable… i am not a hige mb quart fan, many like then, my main complaint is i have always felt that they were overpriced,but the price currently, puts them at a great price / performance place. (see link). also i personally have a eD 130.v3 sub and i find it is astounding, i have had it for several months and it still seams new, impressing me everytime i turn it on. they are lesser known, but the sound quality is steller.
