Navigation receivers from Pioneer and maps?
I’m looking at some of Pioneer’s in-dash navigation units, and am liking what I see. My one concern though is about the maps: most of their units no longer require navigation discs, it says, because the maps are on flash memory. But what about updating the maps? Does that happen through some sort of automated service, or do I have to still use discs to update the maps?
Also, if I do have to manually update the maps, is there a service I can subscribe to to do it for me? I see that some of their units work with XM NavTraffic or MSN Direct, both offering real time road conditions, but what about road… availability (I’ll call it)? Do either of those services update the maps themselves?
The map base is stored on an internal had drive, so you would have to update the maps as they come out. Not a big deal since they also give you instructions that are easy to do with any updates for the deck. XM NavTraffic you would have to subscribe to that for the services, and if they do not update their maps then you are stuck since you would be getting their maps though a Satellite.
