why are my burnt dvd’s poor quality?

they seem fine on my computer but somewhere in the process of there to my dvd player most of the time something seems to go wrong? i’m using an external pioneer dvd re’writer i bout for 30 quid on ebay, nero7 for the encoding and burning and sony -r discs. I’m pretty sure my dvd player is compatible because its fine with other -r dics that have been recorded on, just not the ones i do
