Eat Your Food Storage Items Regularly

The idea of food storage has been around for a long time.  Some of the early pioneers and people in more modern times had storage cellars to store food for the winter months. There was a method of burying vegetables in the ground for later use.  Home canning of fruits and other foods continues to be practiced by some people.  Buying in bulk is not something new and is encouraged by large warehouse stores to save money.  Basements are used for storing all kinds of things, including food.  Pantries in most houses or apartments offer the space for a limited amount of food storage.

Having a supply of food for emergencies is good advice.  Often natural disasters can come without any warning.  Unsuspecting people have problems everyday, which affect their financial and physical well being.

Setting up a food storage program has become easier with companies which now provide information, training, products, recipes, and even a way to earn money from home when becoming involved.  It has become a good home based business as one becomes prepared for emergencies along with health and wellness.  Companies which specialize in this area may be using home party and network marketing (MLM or multi-level marketing) for the distribution of their products.

It may not seem to be for everyone, but there are ways that anyone can start a program to be prepared.  Some problems which may be encountered in trying to start a food storage program are:

  • Money may be tight or unavailable for such a program
  • May be difficult to get the family to eat the food
  • Could take more time in preparation and figuring out recipes for use
  • There may be an issue with not enough space available for storage
  • Motivation or incentive may not be there

Some of the advantages of getting into a food storage program:

  • May set it up according to your own family’s likes and dislikes
  • May be part of your regular food budget
  • May be rotated and used on a regular basis
  • May be used in times of emergencies or temporary problems
  • May provide a sense of security and well being

When the food stored is not particularly what a family would normally eat, it is prudent to begin a program where the food is consumed on a regular basis.  Otherwise, the children may not eat the food if an emergency arises.  Recipes are provided for using the food purchased through food storage companies in order to help families use the food.  Preparing a meal from the food storage weekly helps the family to get used to the food and like it.  Becoming prepared is always a good thing.
