Is my amp going to power my sub to its fullest?
I am looking to purchase a decent sound system for a fairly good price. The subwoofer is going to be Alpine SWR-1243D and I am looking for a suitable amp that won’t break the bank. I found Pioneer GM-D8500M but I don’t know if it has enough guts to really get everything out of my sub. Would Infinity KAPPA ONE 1600W Max, Kappa Series Class D Mono Subwoofer Amplifier be better? Is there a hidden gem that I couldn’t find that someone else knows about? Help!?!?!?!?
I am also looking for good quality in sound and durability.
The pioneer will do the job. The kappa would be slightly better as you would have a little bit of head room. But the kappa is almost 3 times the price.
As long as your amp can do 600 watts RMS @ 2 ohms, you will see the full potential of the sub. If you buy the kappa one (or any amp that does more than 600 watts @ 2 ohms) then you wont run the amp at its max output, that will break your sub.

In your case (with any amp you get that can do at least 600 @ 2 ohms):
V = sqrt(600*2)
V = 34.64
If you spend $30 more than the Pioneer you can get a Hifonics Brutus BRZ1200.1D http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23548_Hifonics+Brutus+BRZ1200.1D.html which will do 900@2ohms leaving you some nice headroom, PLUS if you ever decide to get a second sub, this amp is 1-ohm stable and will do 1200 watts @ 1ohm, perfect for 2 Type R’s. Just a suggestion.
