Pioneer Hdj-1000 Pro Dj Headphones
Best DJ headphones on the market?
Looking for a good pair of DJ headphones. I see most pros using the Sony MDR- V700DJ or Pioneer HDJ-1000 headphones, but in the reviews I have read, both can break very easily. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should get?
I’m assuming you’re looking for the earpieces that swivel a full 360 degrees, allowing you to tuck one side between your ear and your shoulder while cueing and whatnot. I work at a DJ store, and all of us here wholeheartedly recommend Technics RP-DH1200 headphones. Much like the Technics turntable, these are high quality and incredibly durable cans that sound great and upkeep well. The materials are tougher, and the various joints and knuckles are fused together, as opposed to screwed together like the some other brands. You can feel the difference when you’re putting them on, taking them off, or going single: they put up a little bit of a fight. Work with the another brand, however, and they feel like a girl’s headband: work too hard and they might snap in two. You can even hear a difference — or not hear a difference, as the case may be — in the strength of the material and the construction. Technics are less prone to making the faint crackling and ‘straining’ sounds that the others make.
Another option, without the swivelling earpiece, is the Audio Technica ATH-PRO5MS. These are metal reinforced, and nice and strong, but don’t try to tuck them or you’re going to strain (and eventually crack) the yoke. They’re a strong, less expensive option. I say go for the Technics first.
