Has anyone noticed that our political philosophy is now soley based on Iraq?
This war is immobilizing us from solving other issues like global warming. All of the hot topic issues in the 2004 election are being pushed aside and the only thing you hear about anymore is Iraq. We should be exploring alternative fuels instead of fueling our greed and dependence on foreign oil. We should be talking about how to lower poverty here at home. We should be working to end discrimination. We should be getting adequate healthcare to ALL Americans regardless of race or economic status. We should be waking up to word of progressive legislation and initiatives instead of murders, hangings, and our own soldiers dying. Todays America has so much promise and opportunity to be moral leaders in the world and to be pioneers of innovative and progressive technology.
People who think very simplistically believe that the war in Iraq is the same as the “war on terror.” They believe that all the terrorists in the world live in Iraq, or that the people responsible for 9/11 are there, or that Iraq is the epicenter of all terrorist activity in the world. “Fight them there so we don’t have to fight them here.” I think all the Saudi-and-Afghani-born terrorists out there must love that. It means we’re not bothering to look for them, because we are foolishly throwing all of our resources into one pot.
