The greatest invention in my opinion of the 21st Century is the Segway Human Transporter. This breakthrough invention was created by Dean Kamen in the year of 2001. This invention earns the title of a “breakthrough invention” because the creation of the Segway Human Transporter became the antidote to many people who were not mobile and for those struggling with getting around more efficiently. Also, it later would become the answer for those who were looking for a less expensive means of transportation.
This tremendous undertaking began with Dean Kamen when he saw a young man in a wheelchair struggling to get over a curb. After much thought Kamen realized that the dilemma was not ineffective wheelchairs, it was that the world was made for people who could balance. In response to this growing problem for walking impaired people, Kamen and his team came up with a pioneering solution in the form of using a process called dynamic stabilization.
The Segway HT utilizes this technology to assist with human equilibrium. For instance, if one tilts backward on the machine it will come to a total stop. The machine also can reach up to speeds of 12.5 miles per hour and get up to 17 miles out of a single charge. This technology works like a human being’s sense of balance does. Where a human has an inner ear, eyes, muscles and brain to keep them balance, the Segway HT has solid-state gyroscopes, tilt sensors, high-speed microprocessors, and powerful electric motors to assist with a person’s balance. This invention has provided numerous benefits to the walking impaired. It has allowed them to climb stairs, and go over sand, rocks and curbs. Also by restoring balance, it has elevated them on two wheels, so now they can see the world at eye level.
This invention has also help benefit people with full mobility by allowing them to complete tasks more quickly and less expensively. Moreover, this invention has become economically friendly by saving on gas and cutting down on pollution. In addition, the Segway HT has become an asset to many businesses such as the Chicago Police Department, Duke University, Student Scholarships, and Hot Springs Convention Center. These businesses and others alike utilize the Segway to better patrol, secure, and protect their communities more effectively.
Today, the invention of the Segway HT has caused a company to form called Segway. It is focused on serving its customers by developing safe, unique products that are redefining personal transportation for consumers and businesses. They work with business and public organizations to realize the benefits of zero-emission private transportation that boost efficiency and utilize on hand communications. This invention called the Segway Human Transporter is and will keep on transforming the business we call transportation for years to come. That’s what makes it the greatest invention of the 21st Century.
