Pioneer Kiro
what is so special about the pioneer elite “kiro technology”? Why is this tv twice the price of it competitor?
Ok CableGuy, but why is Pioneer the only company that uses this “kuro technology” or better asked why have other companys such as Samsung not came out with a competition brand. and when I messed with the tv in the store I did not notice a difference in picture quality. BTW, I thought all plasma’s were suppost to have maxed out contrast ratio, and all the 1080p’s look the same to me. What is the difference?
Kuro is Japanese for black. Pioneer is on top of the TV market because of their ability to render the darkest blacks. That’s the Holy Grail of TV picture quality. Color and brightness are important too, but the hardest obstacle is deep black. Pioneers are the best at it. As with any other premiere product, they cost more. However, the fact that Pioneer, the best in the TV business, just announced they will soon be out of the TV business, puts their existing products in higher demand. The 5020FD was selling for under $2,000 on Amazon just a couple of weeks ago (when I almost bought it), but now that supplies are dwindling it’s going for $2,600. The top-end PRO-111FD Elite is even more out of control.
Personally, I think Panasonic will equal or exceed Pioneer pretty soon, if they decide to stay in the plasma business. So I’ll be happy with my Samsung plasma until OLED, or whatever the next technology will be, takes off.
