Pioneer Pro 111fd 50
I can buy the Pioneer Kuro PRO-111FD (50”) for $2599. Good buy?
A big name store, initials “BB”, has the tv on sale for $2599 new (retail $4500), being shipped from Pioneer in a few weeks. Should I jump on it? What do you think about the tv? You think the price will be even lower in a couple months?
It is new, with warranty and a the big store with the “geek guys”. wink wink
To the “Peter D”…I managed to get the price so low because I requested to speak with a manager and he offered to knock off a couple hundred dollars off the already low (relatively) sale price. Also I called all the BB stores to find the best deal. Most were the same, until this store. He also offered to give me a 60 day price match, in case the price is even lower.
It’s not a bad deal, but nothing to jump up and down about and here’s why. The non-pro unit is a lot cheaper, the panel is the same, only the controls that Pioneer took away from past models is put back in.
Also, this panel is on the way out. Pioneer is out. They said they would partner with Panasonic to get panels from them, now that appears to be not happening.
Also, with Panasonic about to drop their Neo Plasma very soon, it’s too close. Panasonic refers to these panels as ‘infinite contrast’ panels. The proof will be in the pudding of course.
With the current Panasonic plasmas doing so well for the money, I’d want to see the new Panasonic models in action when it drops in the next few months before dropping that kind of coin on the Kuro.
It is very possible, that the new Panasonics will beat the Kuro, or beat it for the dollar. Either way, if you wait, the Kuros aren’t going anywhere, in this economy, someone will have one for sale if the Pannys are all that great.
