Sub Zero Refrigerator History And New Green Models
Sub-Zero manufactures two series of built-in refrigeration as well as wine storage and undercounter units. Each of the refrigerator models usually comes in three variations, namely stainless steel exterior in three finishes, or customizable exteriors in framed or overlay versions. The latter options allow the buyers to install kitchen cabinet panels on the door to match with the rest of the kitchen. Its refrigerators are designed with a 24″ depth and can be installed flush with kitchen cabinets of the same standard depth to provide an integrated look. This kind of built-in refrigerator is usually wider than normal to compensate for the shallower depth in order to maintain acceptable storage volume.

In 1943, Westye F. Bakke built the first freestanding freezer in the basement of his Madison, WI. home. Indicative of the company’s innovative engineering is its dual refrigeration system, which relies on two separate, self-contained cooling systems to keep fresh food fresher and preserve frozen food longer.

New Sub-Zero refrigerators
2008 Review
The new built-in line of Sub-Zero refrigerators unveiled in Chicago, underlines the company dedication to food preservation and freshness as well as design. These 36″ and 48″ BI models are equipped with Sub-Zero freshness preservation system based on a dual-compressor operating system, which separately controls the temperature and humidity of the refrigerator and freezer compartments, and holds preset temperatures within an exceptional plus/minus one degree, ensuring the highest air quality and therefore, fresh food and energy efficiency. And because air quality has a huge impact on food freshness, as do humidity and temperature, these Sub-Zero refrigerators feature a new process to purify the air inside.
The air inside of the refrigerators is “scrubbed” roughly every 20 minutes via the commercially proven air purification system, used among wholesale food distributors, and in the medical and wine industries, to eliminate odors, viruses and bacteria, as well as the ethylene gases that hasten ripening and, ultimately, food spoilage.
The new built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator incorporates a unique microbiological water filter reducing any contaminants, viruses and bacteria in household water, while preserving the fresh taste of clean water and ice. Refrigerator water filters typically reduce only chlorine and sediment. As of now, only Sub-Zero incorporates this type of water filtration technology in built-in refrigerators.
Within the refrigerator is a freshness guide that provides easy-access reference to proper storage for fruits, vegetables and even holiday leftovers. A second card offers important use-and-care information. Based on research done by food scientists at the University of California, Davis, Sub-Zero has also supplied a booklet to educate consumers on how to properly store food in their new built-in refrigerator. The interior of the new built-in line has been updated to include brighter lighting, crisper drawers with an improved glide system for easy, full extension, a more intuitive digital control panel that is easy to use, and door shelves that can be adjusted in one-inch increments to maximize storage.
The new built-in Sub-Zero refrigerators will be available in Fall of 2008 in four options. The first and entirely new option, Flush Inset allows refrigerators to be installed completely flush with surrounding cabinetry. A redesigned door hinge gives these units a smaller profile and facilitates inset installation. Flush Inset models can accept Classic Stainless, Platinum Stainless or Carbon Stainless Steel panels, or they can be fitted with custom panels.
The stainless steel refrigerator comes finished in Classic Stainless Steel with ventilation grille for a more professional look and is out-of-the-box ready to complement any commercial style kitchen. The Framed option allows the consumer to slide a custom cabinetry panel into an existing frame so that the refrigerator door can better match the surrounding kitchen design. These Sub-Zero refrigerators have a new extruded handle and redesigned classic Sub-Zero louvered grilles.
