Pioneer Vcr Players
Dish Network/Surround Sound and TV Hook up….Help!!?
We recently purchased a nice new HDTV and the Dish Network man came yesterday to hook it all up. We use a pioneer receiver, DVD player and VCR as well. The surround sound was working fine before he came but now we cannot use it to watch the TV or the VCR. We can hear a DVD in surround but neglected to check the other components be fore the installer left. I called Dish Network and they tell me it’s not their problem if the HDTV is working properly. I have looked at my connections and the main thing seems to me that there is no coax connection from the VCR to the HD Sat box like before, but with the new connections there isn’t a place to do so. The whole point of this was to have great sound for the ball games! It seems like with 7 available inputs we would be able to make this work!!
You obviously want ALL audio to go through the Receiver.
Here is what you do:
From the Dish box, use the digital audio output to connect to dig. audio input to the Pioneer.
On the Dish setup menu, specify you use digital out (DD or PCM)
From the DVD, connect digital audio out to dig. audio in of the Pioneer. (Since this works, it is probably there).
From the VCR, connect analog audio out (RCA) to analog audio input in the Pioneer. (NOT the Sat box)
(This assumes the VCR has analog audio out, if not, connect the coax from the VCR to the TV tuner and audio out from the TV to the Pioneer).
This assumes your Pioneer receiver has two digital inputs which match your sources (optical or coax).
It is quite possible that the Dish fellow did not have an extra s/pdif cable to connect your set-top to the AVR; however, if it is a “coax” and not optical, feel free to use any extra RCA cable you have in the house (For example, use the Red from a red/white audio cable).
