Teacher Resources Online

Resources for teachers are more important today than ever before
Teaching in the 21st century is a role that is without question a fine balancing act. No longer does it simply involve being a teacher, it’s as much about politics as it is about education: paper work and admin, continually keeping on top of the ever-changing technology landscape, sticking to a curriculum and maintaining the order of a large class of up to thirty kids – it’s no mean feat. Add to that the challenges of keeping picky parents happy and ensuring rigorous targets are met and you have one delicate assembly of precious plates to spin.
With all of these extracurricular activities taking up a significant portion of the 51 and a half hours a UK teacher works on average each week*, where do they find the time and energy to actually do what they studied four years and became teachers to do – teach? This is where education resources can help.
Education resources have never more valuable to teachers as they are today. The precious little time teachers have left after the political objectives have been satisfied is time that must be spent well, preparing stimulating lessons that bring reward to both themselves and the children and in turn, allowing those targets to be met.
Free teachers’ resources are more ubiquitous than one might think thanks to the ever-developing technology world. An industry which many feel has brought extra challenges to teaching, with the constant materialisation of something new to learn, could actually offer a lifeline: with much easier and quicker access to those essential teachers’ resources, the task of achieving great lessons while juggling all of the more bothersome priorities could become a little easier.
Teachers’ resources can be found on countless online pages. There are plenty of case studies, videos and other interactive tools out there to rejuvenate creativity and bring a fresh approach to every lesson, while blogs and forums discuss and review everything from latest developments in technological teaching aids to tried and tested techniques in dealing with difficult children. There are even iPhone apps that bring lots of ideas, tools and support to the teacher’s fingertips and those who haven’t yet jumped on the Twitter bandwagon should consider that as a tool for keeping up to date with all the latest news and articles published online.
It’s a fine balance, the role of today’s teacher, and with the ever-decreasing time that’s left to do what one loves best – preparing and teaching excellent lessons that really inspire, educate and improve the lives of the kids in the class – the limitless resources available should be taken advantage of to help them fulfil their passion in teaching.
Free teaching resources are out there, we don’t even need to look too hard to find them.
